The Cronenberg classic features Max, the self-assured owner of a niche TV station that broadcasts softporn and violent content, that he describes as a harmless outlet for regular folk. But there’s this feeling in him that things need to be amped up and so he’s on a constant lookout for harder stuff. To aid in his search, he funds a pirate hideout where his trusted buddy scans broadcasts from around the world. The duo stumble on a snuff show that Max believes is faked, but which seems like the right next step to take in further stimulating his audience.
Some of the things in here are so ahead of their time – like when the screen becomes your source of flesh, you will do embarrassing things to it in the safety of your room 🙂
Deborah’s DELICIOUSLY JUICY POUTY LIPS 💋…….yummy yummy yummy 😋
Loves me some Deborah Harry. Kudos to James Woods and director David Cronenberg as well. What a bizarre film.

Good thing we dont need Channel 83, we got effedupmovies.com now 😀
3rd favourite Cronenberg movie after Rabid & The Fly, great flick, has been called a bit “Dated” especially in the complicated tech era of today, but fuck all that just enjoy it, Debbie harry is also a nice bonus.
Essential
I’ve seen this before and forgot about it so I watched it again. Now I remember why I forgot it. Although I am a big fan of James woods (he was terrific in “The Onion Field” (1979) and many more films) and I like Cronenberg’s work (“Spider” (2002) with Ralph Fiennes and a stunning performance by Miranda Richardson would fit perfectly here on EUM), and Debbie Harry put in a good performance too, I don’t feel that “Videodrome” was their finest hour. It is just too silly with the slogan “Death to Videodrome – Long live the new flesh.” It’s a well known film mainly because it is very strange but this was always destine to be a film for a cult type of audience. Some of the special effects are great like when he kills the guy from the Spectacular Optical Corporation but I can’t help but feel let down somehow by this film. It doesn’t age well either and has a dated quality to it. 3 stars.
Long live the new flesh
