Plot – Spoilers:
Savage Grace is based on the life of Barbara Baekeland, in particular her relationship with son, Antony.

Barbara was an almost-actress and famous socialite in the ’40s-60s who married into money – husband, Brooks Baekeland was the grandson of the inventor of Bakelite plastic. Brooks was the quintessential wealthy adventure-seeker and Barbara famous for her beauty and presence in elite social circles. Their marriage though was a sham publicly and Barbara focused her energies on son Antony who appeared to wilt under the pressure of adding rungs to the social ladder the upwardly mobile Barbara was so desperate to climb.

Eventually, the strains of their heavy dependence on each other climaxes in a miserable ending.

Massive Spoilers:
Barbara believed Antony’s interest in men was a passing thing and something that could be cured. The real-life Barbara used to hook him up with prostitutes to rid him of his gay-flu and eventually fucked him, from all accounts not from an incestuous interest, but more in the hope that her feminine powers would straighten him out.
