Plot – Spoilers:
It’s 1942 and a young boy is solving a jigsaw puzzle. His mother walks in and indulgently looks over his shoulder only to be shocked when she sees the puzzle is of a naked woman. She loses it and starts rummaging through stuff in his room but gets an even bigger shock when her timid little son buries an axe in her head. When the cops arrive, he hides in the closet and tells them a ‘big man’ did it.
Forty years later at a University, a maniac in a dark suit armed with a chainsaw begins dismembering women on campus for no particular reason other than them being hot. The police are unable to figure out his identity and so send an undercover lady cop as a tennis coach and bait for the serial killer.
This film ticks all the boxes for 80’s horror schlock/sleaze – a ridiculous plot, bad acting, tits, ass, red paint (i.e. fake blood) and unintentionally funny scenes. Such as the scenes showing skate boarding, Kung Fu and trying to do a jigsaw while wearing rubber gloves, but for me the standout silly scene was the ‘competitive’ tennis match. The policeman’s moustache at the beginning of the film also deserves a mention – great homage to 70’s porn. If you like 80’s horror schlock/sleaze this film wont disappoint. 3/5 jigsaw pieces
Is there a way to add/remove subtitles or close captions? (I understand or/and can read a few languages… so sometimes its confusing to have/understand both the captions with the audio… (I love the site… as its a lot easier to watch this hard-to find movies, instead of doing a complicated online research throughh seeeeeveral sites!
Decently made 80’s Euro schlock, Pieces has made a bit of a name for itself and achieved some cult status. There’s a great double Blu-ray set for those keen. The movie itself is typical for the grindhouse sleaze genre. Lots of blood & gore and tits & ass (and one dong for the ladies). Also includes a completely random Kung-fu scene…
”You dont have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre” was the tagline for this movie when released in 82, and was subsequently banned in lots of countries. No doubt inspired by TCM, there is quite good gore and good effects for an 80s film. I love these old slashers, they just dont make them like they used to.
Loved that opening scene! Only came for that. I’m sure the rest of the movie is very nice.
