Plot – Spoilers:
A young photographer Mark works at a film studio while also shooting sexy pinups on the side. It’s not for the money, as he earns substantial rent from letting out rooms in his inherited house. His real ambition is to make a perfect docudrama capturing fear at its purest. In this pursuit, he’s been killing women with a modified camera while resurrecting ghosts from a childhood of abuse. Mark is getting close to finishing his magnum opus, when his curious tenant Helen befriends him…
Though acclaimed now, Peeping Tom almost destroyed director Michael Powell’s career at the time.
Random Thought – Massive Spoiler:
Right at the end, when Helen passionately grabs Mark from behind, she almost ends up skewering him on the tripod spike. Wonder if that was a planned move or whether the actor was taken by surprise.
An interesting movie. Hard to fathom today why it caused such a furor in it’s time as it is very, very tame compared with what was to follow.
Lol
honestly a classic, ahead of its time
In the first shots, the right leg stocking does not have a seam. Further along it shows both with seams. Continuity in those days obviously wasn’t an issue.
