In a South American country emerging out of dictatorship, Paulina and her husband Gerardo have been friends from uni days and were part of the resistance movement. Following the regime change, Gerardo has moved up the ranks and is heading a committee investigating the crimes of the past. Paulina however, carries a trauma that makes her live in dread of any knock on the door, despite living in freer times.
Then late one night, an unexpected guest arrives, whom she instantly recognizes as the man who had tormented her for weeks, back in the day. Only problem is, her democracy-loving husband, who never really had to suffer like she did, doesn’t believe her. And the man too, refuses to accept her allegations, even claiming an alibi for his innocence.
A small but proficient cast, a house in a remote location and a master director is all that is needed sometimes, to keep you on edge and interested, it seems.
I saw this a long time ago and remember it having a flimsy, kind of unrealistic plot. I really like Sigourney Weaver, mainly because of the “Alien” films, but I am not a fan of Ben Kingsley or Roman Polanski. I remember this movie being kind of weak with maybe a 2 star rating. Watch it and let me know if I’m right.
Why would ben kingsley’s character decided to go to the house? Did he even knew that the lawyer and she were a couple?
Good plot, good production, good actors and all in all pretty good.
atleast she knew what she was doing and believed till the end haha
this should be banned as its directed by a jew – free free pale ale and wine from my liver to my kidneys
i first heard this story as a radio play long before this film came out.
