Plot – Spoilers:
14-year-old Sofia lives with her mother and baby brother in the shanty parts of Tijuana, Mexico. Most of her free time is spent taking care of her brother while her mother works shifts. So when she finally meets her boyfriend Ulises’ family, it’s a welcome contrast to her daily drudgery. There’s a friendly dad, mom and older brother with wife and kid. They seem a sunny family that celebrate occasions and eat together – everything Sofia has probably always pined for. But the reality behind the homely curtain in the Ulises home is more dark. Dad actually runs a brothel, the kid is one of several children of prostitutes working there, and Sofia is Ulises’ first go at the job his older brother has mastered – trapping girls into sexual slavery. There’s a problem though, Ulises has fallen in love with Sofia and wants her as wife, not whore.
The Chosen Ones later introduces a 17-year-old girl, Marta, as another potential victim of the family. And this is where the film plays out differently from others on prostitution. It was already a little different by covering underage prostitution in Mexico, but the difference here also lies in whether the two girls can elicit contrasting sympathies from the viewer. Sofia is much younger than 17-year-old Marta. Her relationship with Ulises sees her as the more innocent and vulnerable one, whereas Marta for the longest while believes she’s in control of a relationship that’s going to end in marriage and financial stability. Both the girls are equal victims of sexual slavery. Yet this a movie that tests your sympathies – is sympathy always a black or white thing, ready to be equally distributed among victims of the same crime?
No, Harry Potter is the chosen one.

who chose this one?
BORING SHIT!! No explicit scenes, pointless chit-chat and all actors are bored. This film is a waste of time
It’s odd that I have a movie related comment that is awaiting approval but down below there is a comment that says “get back up ya mums yeast infected cunt” that has already been approved.
This movie is rated G. The whole family can watch this one. Although the subject matter is dark; teenage girls in Mexico forced in to a life of prostitution, there is no T & A or visual violence, only audible. About an hour and 15 minutes in to the film you see some tits for about 3 seconds but don’t worry, the kids will be fast asleep by the time that happens. The story is good and I’m sure stuff like this happens daily in Mexico but considering the topic this movie is LAME! If you are looking for a harsh and brutal movie about teenage girls in Mexico forced in to prostitution this one will disappoint. I’m giving this 2 and a half stars. There are some movies that would be perfect here on EUM like “Tiresia” (2003), a French film with Laurent Lucas that has one of the most shocking and brutally cruel scenes in it that it made me gasp, or “Morphia” (2008) by Russian director Aleksei Balabanov which has some gruesome scenes that will make you wince. Also, there are several TV movies that are far more brutal than “The Chosen Ones” like: 1. “Murder of Innocence” (1993) with an incredible performance by Valerie Bertinelli, Eddie’s ex-wife. They were still married when she made this film. 2. “The Rape of Richard Beck” (1985) about two slimy goons who rape a hard nose male cop (Richard Crenna) and change his life, 3. “Aftermath: A Test of Love”… Read more »
