AKA:
Directed by: Daniel Espinosa
Starring: Tom Hardy (Demidov), Noomi Rapace (Raisa), Joel Kinnaman (Vasili), Fares Fares (Alexei), Gary Oldman (Nesterov), Jason Clarke (Brodsky), Paddy Considine (Vladimir), Vincent Cassel (Kuzmin)
strong>Country: USA
Language: English (Eng Subs)
Runtime: 02:17:09
Genres: Based on a True Story, Detective, Gay, Military, Old-Young, Serial Killers

Plot – Spoilers:
Demidov is a WW-II hero, famous for an iconic photograph of him with the Soviet flag during the conquest of Berlin. Smug about his professional and personal future with an ostensibly devoted wife, Demidov is soon forced to question the system he staunchly defends, when it comes calling home.

What begins as a Stalin-era Soviet military story with actors speaking accented English, soon migrates towards the crimes of serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. Chikatilo’s killings actually spanned a later era, but of what use is creative liberty, if you can’t use it.

For those more interested in Chikatilo, Citizen X is more devoted to his crimes.

i ❤️ Tom Hardy. It was a pleasure to take a break from the gore of most serial killer films. And Ridley Scott (Scott Free Productions) wouldn’t throw his money away on trash. Did I mention that I ❤️ Tom Hardy?

This is what happens when you let the small hats take over every institution and the citizens are brainwashed into giving up their guns. We’re already halfway there in the Current Year United States. Fun times ahead!

A messy movie with a tidy ending. Disney couldn’t of come up with a more: and the lived happily ever after. Other than that, pretty good movie.

What a great, great movie! Tom Hardy & Gary Oldman. Two of my favorite, no nonsense actors. Neither one uses their career as a political soapbox to wallow me in someone else’s idea of mire, and I respect the hell out of that. These guys both work diligently to amuse me, to entertain me, and they do a stellar job. Albeit the timing is a bit off, I love how this film incorporates brutality of Russian history and the Chikatilo murders and makes it work for the better of the story. 10/10 Thank you, EUM… You guys are the absolute best!!

Just some illuminating dogmatism fellow belletristic partisans 🙂
The Communist Party of the Soviet Union arose from the Bolshevik wing of the Russian Social Democratic Workers’ Party (RSDWP). The Bolsheviks, organized in 1903, were led by Vladimir I. Lenin, and they argued for a tightly disciplined organization of professional revolutionaries who were governed by democratic centralism and were dedicated to achieving the dictatorship of the proletariat. In 1917 they formally broke with the right, or Menshevik, wing of the RSDWP. In 1918, when the Bolsheviks became the ruling party of Russia, they changed their organization’s name to the All-Russian Communist Party; it was renamed the All-Union Communist Party in 1925 after the founding of the U.S.S.R. and finally to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1952.
The Communist Party arose in opposition to both capitalism and the socialists of the Second International who had supported their capitalist governments during World War I. The name communist was specifically taken to distinguish Lenin’s followers in Russia and abroad from such socialists.

despite having some of my favourite actors I found the film a bit cliched
its neither one thing or another – paddy considine is not utilised sufficiently and the child killer plot seems to go nowhere – the political side again isnt really explored and we end up with cliched punch ups that reveal the hollywood formula
bit of a disappointment

Great film, that very likely captures 1950s opressive Russian Communism society very well… The locations, atmosphere, scenes, and time in history were well laid out and timed. But here and there the story seemed to slip a little expecially toward the end! But the excellent cast and acting held the film togather very well, and it was very entertaining, thank you!… Doc Blake

After watching I think, 20 Effedup movies with horrible endings this one had the best ending. Leo’s wife is a tuff bird and a true surviver. I do not know if this was based on a true story or not but, great acting was exhibited in this . Keep up the great work at Effedup I’ll be watching Citizen X next.
