A Seoul bank employee, Hae-won, is cold to people in need of her help and to others who reach out to her from her past. After an incident at work where she loses her job, she heads to a small island where she spent a few summers as a kid with her grandfather.
The islanders are mostly old people wary of her, but her childhood friend, Bok-nam, is excited to meet her again after all those years. Bok-nam is now a slovenly woman, bullied and treated like shit by everyone around. To her, Hae-won represents everything aspirational and perhaps a way out of her daily grind. Hae-won though, enjoys Bok-nam’s company as a vacation-friend and finds it hard to seek anything deeper there.
Numbness of emotion is the death of the soul, but feeling emotional pain is what makes you know you’re alive. Because life IS pain. So just accept that, ride it out, and you’ll be all the stronger for coming out the other side.
Couldnt stop laughing when the grama was running away.
So that’s why when I watched The Chaser, Mijin looks familiar to me. Seo Young Hee is such a great actress for portraying these roles.
The only relief from grief and suffering is bloodshed, which is exactly what we get. ‘Bedevilled’ is more than a story of a woman scorned, it’s about women’s constant struggle to find a place in the world and what happens when it is taken away from her. This is especially true for Asian cinema, as women are typically shown as more reserved and dainty, trying not to make a ripple in the ocean that is a man’s world. Not only is ‘Bedevilled’ a beautiful representation of Korean horror but its beauty is reflected in the simplicity of its collinear objective.
i loved the show even though it made me cry a lot
One of my favorite movies, 10/10 recommend.
Amazing movie. Beautiful location, perfect acting all the way through. HIGHLY intelligent writing and genuine tension and possibly catharsis… This is my favorite of the Korean movies I watched, mainly because it’s so deep and realistic – the character relationships anyway. Makes western stuff seem so puerile.
bleedin bloody great stuff
MISERY DEPRESSING
spoilers-
lmaooo dumbass probably caused more damage taking that knife out then she did stabbing him
Japan better.
such a good movie, wow!
Fully deserved everything she got for downing a Guinness straight from the fridge like that.
very good movie indeed, i watched it maybe 10 years ago but i remember vividly the plot. its true that city folks dont get along in korea at all with the rural folks and vice versa,
i saw the devil was 100x better tho! the chaser 2008 was also pretty good. just to name a few.
Yes another great film on EUM,.. Well done thru out, and had a feel good ending. LOVED IT.
Loved this one! I enjoyed it more than “I saw the devil” which was also a great one in my opinion.
main character is a little bit annoying … slow start but second half makes up for it . awesome
Another brilliant Korean movie.
Good story.. fast paced enough but the first 45 quite plot heavy.
Some fine acting as usual and some nice comedy touches for us sick sods…
Hae won whore bitch she should have died too.
Hi peach
How sad that the shit-eaters have come back. It was almost too dick-suckingly tranquel for a few days but once again Steve and Bies have brought their stench.
OK, let me make my point: I am disappointed with what the world has become during my life. Large parts of this world are now governed by autocratic criminals, and freedom of speech and thought is not possible anymore in these countries. Even in a ‘civilized’ country like the USA these freedoms seem no longer assured. It is worse than this: At this moment people are tortured for being what they are or expressing what they think!
Now, in these times, we should be eternally grateful for the existence of a site like effedupmovies which allows us to see movies made by people who do not have readily accepted the prevailing the ideas of society, often imposed by the church or other authorities. Movies that were forbidden, made by directors who had to fear for their lives.
For this reason, I would appreciate it if the ‘childish’, pointless and utterly rude reactions to the movies shown here would stop. By now I am disgusted by these reactions. Let us concentrate on the freedom of thought expressed in these movies, and most of all, let us respect how these movies support the freedom of people to the sexual identity and preference which they prefer (make no mistake, I am heterosexual).
And to the Admin(s): make the idea of ‘effed up’ more political and psychological. This splatter stuff becomes as boring as pornography.
Fuckin legendary, mate
too much korean sh.t here
Loved the movie. nice acting and very artistic. somewhat hyperbolic but still enjoyable
Why tf was Hae-Won set up as the “heroine”/final girl!? She was as annoying, cold and cowardly as all the rest of the old cows, even worse, and deserved the same fate
hae-won was annoying af and deserved to be dead idc if she redeemed herself in the end I was rlly rooting for her downfall
Dear Shane, I totally agree with your positive reaction. ‘Bedevilled’ is a movie which is always there in lists of the type ‘The best Korean movies of…’. So we should be grateful to the Admin(s) for offering this movie to us. Expressing your gratitude (and mine) has nothing to do with ‘kissing Admins ass’.
It is about time that the Admin(s) consider blocking pointless reactions (see below) in which a reasonable, constructive person like Shane is called a ‘fuckin bootlicker’.
thanks for putting up more Korean stuff, awesome revenge movie
Nice job Admin,cheers,brilliant
& bloody revengefick,enjoy people,it’s a good one
