Plot – Spoilers:
Based on the historical character, Elizabeth Bathory, who lived in the 16th and 17th centuries and was a Countess in the Kingdom of Hungary. Her reign included parts of modern Slovakia and Czech Republic, where a lot of this movie was shot.
Elizabeth Bathory is one of the most notorious yet enchanting figures in history. She was tried and imprisoned for allegedly torturing and murdering hundreds of virgin maidens. It was alleged that she bathed in their blood in the hope of obtaining a son and everlasting youthful beauty.
Bathory: Countess of Blood is a slightly sympathetic take on the character and points towards the allegations having their source in politics and other noblemen wanting to take over her vast wealth and property.
Favorite scenes:
Obviously, the short scene where Anna Friel lies sexually satisfied in a tub of blood is beautifully shot. There are also a number of scenes involving blood splattered bodies that are part of Bathory’s hallucinations/reality.
V mild
In movies, i love history, kings and castle.
Worth to watch every minute.
i want her to whip me and lead me around like a dog
Nudies lol
bad one!
Not shocking or overly gory, I enjoyed it although it was a bit long. I also noticed that a similar scene was played out in ”Hostel 2”, where the woman was bathing in blood. This is not an oscar winner but worth a watch if you like mild horror films.
Yuck. Boring!!! Next!
I am glad to see that church and its power been brought down by mankind, however in relation to the nature of human beings I believe nothing has changed ever since. Greed, betrayal, cheating and killing each other for different reasons are still here, not mentioning cheating . Its in our blood and going nowhere. Risen Apes or fallen angels?
It’s crazy to know this is based on a a True Story. 10/10 Worth every minute.
If anyone is interested in legend of Elizabeth Bathory then I recommend the biography ‘ The Blood Princess’ .EB is considered to be the most prolific torturer and murdered in history ,she murdered 650+ young servant girls and your girls from the surrounding villages to the castle who were basically ‘ trafficked’ for the sick pleasure of her spitting their throats and drinking their blood and hanging them above her bathtub so she could bath in their warm blood and ‘ obtain their youth’! It’s believed that she had some form of epilepsy and that some of this behaviour may have been also influenced psychosis ,that used to happen before there were medications for epilepsy & even low levels of iron .
Here in the UK two illnesses afflict certain members of the royal family ,probably caused through shagging & inter breeding with their European cousins…porphyria and hemophilia .Porphyria affected Mad King George who had bouts of psychosis..The queen ‘s own mother ( also called Elizabeth) paid to have regular blood transfusions ,the blood of healthy teenagers…the old vampire lived to be 97 !
I love Caravaggio’s work ( I.paint myself) and he truly was a murderer on the run from the police called Merisi, somehow linking him to Elizabeth Bathory I feel might be ‘ artistic licence’;)
This movie is sad. Very good!
