Jennifer is on a break from work assignments in New York and hopes to pen her first novel while renting a summer place in the countryside. She’s brimming with the excitement of a first-time writer and is happy and friendly, and so when she stops by a gas station, she indulgently gazes at a couple of bored men playing silly games there without making much of it.
A few days later while she’s relaxing by the river, the men drive by wildly in a motorboat, hooting and trying to impress her. Unimpressed with their country manners, Jennifer storms off disgusted and focuses on her writing. Meanwhile, one of their friends who’s a bit retarded and works as a delivery boy befriends her and boasts of being her boyfriend.
It turns out the obnoxious country boys aren’t as harmless as Jennifer thought, and also aren’t about to be dissuaded by her coldness.
incredible
Just a little peaceful writing in the countryside. Now, plenty of material for her next book perhaps.
I was about 9-10 when I first saw this. I’ve always owned a copy. The 21st century versions are ok but Gunter Kleemann’s; rape scene is hard to top. Always loved the harmonica tune. There aren’t many movies that were made a decade before I was born that are still watchable today but this is one of them.
Also, The Wicker Man (1973) & The Lion In Winter (1968) are two favourites. You don’t see any tities in The Lion In Winter but nothing was lost by Katharine Hepburn not taking off her clothes, she was over 60. (FYI: the blonde chick that dances naked in The Wicker Man is hot as fuck!)
I remember going to Blockbuster and renting this when I was a teenager. The guy behind the counter gave me a strange look. I like all the “I Spit on Your Grave” movies.
I would give anything to see the original 1959 noir version of this title. It’s based on the book by Boris Vian, and has nothing to do with this franchise plot wise. Can’t find it anywhere!
Had me shook I fuck with it
The original title for this film was “Day of the Woman” but it didn’t get such good reception, so it was retitled and re-released years later as “I Spit on Your Grave” and that’s when it started to gain much more attention. That was a good marketing tactic, especially for a low-budgeted movie about a woman who is sexually violated but gets her deadly revenge. Between the two titles, the second one sounds more befitting as it’s fierce, eye-catching, and something from a horror, especially since it has the word “grave” in it. The first one sounds generic and like something from a standard rom-com, so it wouldn’t produce such an entrancing effect as its successor title. Good job on the makers.
Great movie aswell as the sequal, when she is brought back to endure the revenge of her tormentors 40 years earlier.
Great revenge flick. Hunted becomes the hunter. This was banned all over the place on its release, it would have been pretty shocking in its day, some of the controversy has worn off over time but it still packs a punch today with its savagery and grittiness and it has spawned a remake and 4 other episodes to follow it. A popular series for sure.
impressive visual quality for a 1978 movie!
I always saw the remake and thought it was pretty rough, this however is absolutely way worse (content wise) however much better entertainment. Love this movie so much, more men should watch it
She swims out to the boat, climbs in, soaking wet, pushes the guy into the river… and is bone dry. Gotta love those 70s flicks!
great movie for the 70’s, a little slow at times but by the end it finally lives up to its title. i enjoyed the contrast between how helpless she was when they were raping her and how helpless they were when she duped them. the characters were interesting as well, their dynamics were interesting and this movie did have a few surprisingly dark comedic moments. the ending was quite cold and matter of fact and for that reason, some people may be left with a bitter taste in their mouth after the credits roll, but this increases the effectivity of the movie from my perspective.
color, body shape, beautiful hair, nude heroine- vow! how a movie like that at 1978……? i can’t believe .But i like the movie a lot…!
Thanks I love it!!!!!
