Plot – Spoilers:
Set in the ’70s, the Salmon family are a relatively happy family who tick all the boxes of the Happy American Family: Two girls, a boy, Dad and Mom. They sit around the dinner table. The parents are always checking on their kids and even involve the kids in their personal hobbies.
Some of the family’s happiness comes of as awkward, even cringy. What isn’t awkward though, is the happiness of 14 year-old Susie, the eldest of the Salmon kids. She is excited about her crush and things like movie club at school or hanging out with Grandma at the mall. The whole film essentially laments how one man can snatch away all this happiness.
At over 2 hours, The Lovely Bones at times seems like it can’t decide whether it wants to be a movie about a serial killer or a Hollywoodised family flick. What keeps it together though, is the very watchable, earnest face of Saoirse Ronan, a great performance by Stanley Tucci and the expected visual mastery of Peter Jackson.
A well put together movie in part but spoiled by being overly sentimental. An interesting take on the hereafter.
Chopped her up good . . . Susie Salmon was probably the crowning, perfect jewel of his life.
Stupid name for a stupid movie
‘Serial killer’? More like a glorified pedo. This chap was way too green to be a serial killer. 1st reason: staying in the same place for too long, i.e., shitting where you eat; an absolute no, no. 2nd reason: Keeping trophies; ego is a significant hindrance. Third, and the dead giveaway: not backing that truck up closer to the landfill; I was cringing watching those two meatheads breaking their backs while lugging that safe across the yard.
emotional tears
The film was ok, good acting from main character. A little too cutsey for me though, didn’t find it very sad. I guess I was looking more for misery porn though.
This movie is breaks my heart every time I see it . It reminds me of my friend who was hit 32 times in her head with a nail puller and kept for 5 years in a freezer . RIP DENISE HUBER from Newport Beach , Ca .
Well done…. not exactly what I would consider and effed-up movie but still… it was a captivating film masterfully crafted, well acted and superbly told. 5* all around!
And once again I have to thank the EUM crew for offering it.
Watched this film before way back at “thrills” tv channel, completely forgot the title of this film and been looking for it for the past few years, and its legit available in this site, whoever the admin. I just wanna say thanks. <3
So her sister hid the evidence that could send the pedo serial killer who murdered the girl and raped her along to other victims to prison so she can continue on living and popping out kids ….shit movie and shit character her sister was.
