Plot – Spoilers:
A German couple – Rafael and Isabell – share an S&M relationship. Isabell loathes Rafael and yet also admires and fears him. She seems broken and a complicit accomplice in whatever he gets up to. Rafael initially comes off boorish and bored, but comes alive after he picks up a young woman Lisa to join them on their boat. The couple’s darker sides soon emerge once they have Lisa all to themselves in the vast, empty, sunlit sea.
Most of Marian Dora’s signature characteristics are on show here. Perhaps slightly tempered. But the despair and emptiness, it’s all there.
Looks to me like it’s one of those movies where they have taken a later scene and tagged it on the the beginning to try and attract viewers. Usually the sign of a weak story. I’ll give it a miss.
Well, that was unexpectedly boring. I did expect pointless, nihilistic, and pretentious from a Marian Dora flick, but not boring. Glad I saw the others first.
Dora’s perversely reversed take on ‘Knife in the Water’ has his trademark close-ups of visceral gore and ethereal music score. My personal favorite of Dora’s followed by ‘Cannibal’. There’s a sadness here that I don’t get from his other films. Holds up to repeated viewings, underrated.

Pointless low budget rubbish. Tried hard to look artistic but failed.
I too am a Marian Dora fan and i get how this movie can be regarded as useless compared to the other movies. For one, the build up is very slow and you don’t really get properly introduced to the characters until like halfway into the movie. However, to each his own. Some people like this pacing and story line while to other it can be very slow and a bore. I fell into the latter category and the ending is very underwhelming too. As for the gore factor – this is very mild and pales in comparison to movies like Melancholie der Engel.
I have been wanting to see this for a while, and thanks to effed up, I now have and i have to say it was quite a good watch. a bit of eye candy and a bit of gore and simple but well acted storyline. I have seen other Marian Dora films but I liked this one the best. No gross out and shock tactics required here.
thanx…very sick and gruesome movie made in germany!
An incredibly stupid movie. Not worth the time.
